Up Top is now published on itch.io. It follows Top's progress from a naked prisoner to dizzy heights. https://earlofmaine.itch.io/up-top

Thank you for your comments. You have obviously studied the images in detail, which is gratifying. As we have noted in the DevLog, Top's story is coming put in October - Tempoview has archived alll the images, and the arduous business of ordering them and validating the commentary now starts.  The place of much-loved Jax in history may well follow.

His early life was pretty grim, but he gets into a real tangle with the American secessionary movement when he is Thrix's security chief. This story may be worth a record: we already have Upsurge and Up Top is coming, so the title Jax Up might be appropriate? He does that a lot, does Jax.

hmm, some part of this story is fun to read, but I think some of them should be expanded, especially the Jax part.

Also, the AI-generated pictures are kinda too much.  I mean, many pictures are too rough and I could see  human face... while some of them just look the same. Less pictured but more text would help a lot (especially for the hidden explicit part of the story, I think they could be better with more prompt)

Your keyboard must be burning in flames from typing out these AI prompts ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“๐Ÿค“.

You don't need a keyboard when you have a Tempoview. Although its cooling budget is vast.

any who was following that N4VAS guy conversation between he and I, they blocked me and reported me for calling them out on their BS, and said i was, using keyterms, "bullying" them lol and using that keyterm to try to force the report system.

they couldn't handle being called out for what/why they were wrong, decided to be smug in post, called out again, and chose to run and hind rather than self reflect. those are the ppl supporting bad games like this. Just remember that.

Generative AI has it's purposes, especially in language, but this? No. Hell no, a hundred times over. Using tools to produce a product, that's all game creation is, sure. But that's not what this is, this is a construction of generative images over generated text, absolutely no passion at all, there's barely a sliver of creativity when the words weren't even written by the sole "developer".

(1 edit) (+1)(-6)

So glad that you liked it. The amount of work has been overwhelming, however, and you should try to do something yourself  before damning it a lazy.

(+1)(-14)

Played and wow, I already want more, everything is perfect, the mix of AI and 3D, realistic paintings, coming together make for great details

Top Up is on its way, due in October. See the DevLog.

I find myself wondering why you bothered to write so long a text about something which you claim to hold in contempt. To the viewer, unless steeped in art history, an image is what it is, not how it was made.

College undergraduate criticism about narrative ignores the fact that life seldom follows a narrative structure, but "just happens". People die, pointlessly; there is almost never a grand punchline.  Life and careers follow pinball trajectories,  with no celestial author guiding their elegant disposition.

(1 edit) (+6)(-1)

Another commenter suggested these comment responses might be AI-generated as well. Wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt but, like... brother. This so flagrantly misses the point of what I was saying that it has to be, right?

"unless steeped in art history, an image is what it is, not how it was made". Uh... yeah... that's why I explicitly stated that the point of the comment wasn't just to say "AI bad". Multiple times. I'm not gonna go re-download this and count, but I'd say at least half the images in this wouldn't meet basic quality standards for posting to somewhere like e6ai. This isn't just AI art, it's objectively bad AI art, and you don't need an art history degree to see that.

"...almost never a grand punchline... no celestial author guiding their elegant disposition." You literally created a work of fiction with a climactic ending with an AI author guiding its disposition. Come on, man.

The reason why I took the time to write out that whole thing is pretty clearly stated in the first and last paragraph (that's how a thesis statement works! :) ). I wrote all that because you can always improve, and I cared enough to contribute something constructive to help with that. But all I'm getting in response is snark, and it looks like you couldn't even put in the effort to write your own snark. I tried, man. At least one of us can say that. Best of luck to you.

EDIT: Looking at this again, I'm noticing that what's in the comment response seems to line up with the shortest statements in my original comment, e.g., "hold in contempt" = "'visual' and 'novel' are sorely lacking", and "college undergraduate criticism about narrative" = "story-wise", "on the subject of Jonur", and "the entire scene". I'm wondering if the comment response wasn't AI-generated, but rather that this guy read up until he concluded the post was negative, then literally only read the shortest parts of the comment with no context and responded to those. If that's true, and he still decided to be rude and dismissive after not even taking the five minutes to read what he was responding to, that's somehow even worse than having AI do it.

Hi, Is there gonna be an Android version? Does this work on joyplay? Also, don't get ppl who hard hates on AI content,  first of all (this one) is free, and besides that it shows the dedication of the creator.

You can freely choose if want to play it or just avoid it, but man, there's a person behind this, you don't gain anything throwing hate (he's not charging you anything) .

A game is a game and I'll be more than happy to read and enjoy whatever comes with it.

As for the creator, thank you for making this.

(+3)(-16)

Thank you for your remarks. AI phobia wil become increasingly commonplace as the technology becomes universal. Like many neuroses, those who suffer from it are unbalanced, rude and loud.

The story has not been tested on Android and we were not plannning an Android version.

(+16)(-4)

its not ai phobia its the lack of trying as a person -w-

(+1)(-3)

What an oddly luddite view. You are equally cross when someone uses a bicycle instead of walking? Tools is tools.

(+2)(-1)

you didnt use it as a tool, you used it as an end all means. Answer this: is a carpenter, a carpenter cause of their tools or their skill?

(+1)(-1)

I do not recognise the question as valid.  If a table is made by a machine, or an identical table is gnawed into shape be a beaver, are there intrinsic difference in what that table does for its user? Those who care about intangibles would say not: the beaver gnawed piece is "organic" and has "soul". A logical positivist would say, with justification, that that is fluff,  that it is all self delusion and that the table it is what it does and that is why a given lump of matter is called a table in the first place. Molecules is molecules, as Daffy Duck would undoubtedly have said.

because theres a million different avenues other than ai. hire a person ask for art work that artist arent going to use. if a "person" was behind this then they should have gone to ppl for more help.

it doesnt matter if its free...if crack, heroin or any other hard drug was free does that make it better?? you say a game is a game, but a game with out real effort is an affront.

id rather the creator write their own story, draw their own characters, fail, and then tell them you gave it your best but heres some tips to improve and grow. Thats a person. thats a real human being.

actually it wouldnt have costed them really anything if they went around and asked or had patience. like they are an independent person (assuming)...what is the rush, they dont work for anybody so theres no deadline other than the one they set themselves.

all they needed to do was put out on blast on social media, asked around to artist if there are pics that they are not using, pics they have made but dont ever plan to publish, rework, or use...people would give them up. That is a project that has soul and effort put to into it. instead of just making something for....what??

you are talking to an artist....who talks to other artist...whom's art ive asked if i could color, line, or work with if they are not using it. theres literally an artist i follow who post free art from time to time to use, color and edit to however you want as long as you credit them for the original....
Thats a very negative outlook on artist to assume we will always ask for money, when 9/10 artist ask to be credit for work they have worked on and are giving away. Money comes from work on transactions, if theres something we've worked on our free time, why ask for money??

(+9)(-4)

This whole response sounds like ChatGPT made it for you, but you specifically asked it for a more poor punctuation attempt.

PS, I have no, "Phobias" on the subject of AI, but I just prefer if a game Dev tried a bit harder then looking at an image that was just made and saying, "Yup, That's Good, Lets make it into a game"

(+25)(-7)

AI generated images, AI generated story. Do you want me to scratch behind your ears, prompter? Give you a treat for just putting a bunch of bullshit into a machine and throwing this game together in 2 hours max? I've played flash games on Newgrounds more compelling than this.

(+6)(-25)

You clearly have not downloaded Upsurge and are just shooting your mouth off.

" Do you want me to scratch behind your ears, prompter?" I do not expect anything from you, save perhaps basic politeness. But in your dark little room, odorous with last week's pizza boxes, politeness is likely a  stranger.

(+5)(-17)

So much hostility towards someone who asked for literally nothing from you. I get the whole anti-AI crusade, but how does this sort of rant help anyone?

The pictures are clearly ai, so how much of the writing is too?

(+4)(-13)

I suggest that you read the text, which explains it all.

The Windows archive is corrupted. It wont extract the exe and some other files

Thanks. The upload was a fraught process. I have re-loaded the file, which works fine in its home base.
